Join Up! warns about online fraud attempts

Bucharest, 28 October 2026

Join Up! Romania warns consumers about fraud attempts carried out by unauthorized individuals who misuse the company’s name and visual identity to deceive the public.

Recently, unauthorized individuals have created fake online pages and sponsored advertisements that copy the brand’s identity and fraudulently use the company’s details. They contact consumers directly, using various phone numbers and sending messages or making calls via WhatsApp, with the aim of misleading them by sending fictitious documents, such as offers, purported booking confirmations and confirmations of service contracts, as well as fake invoices containing the company’s visual and identifying elements, while indicating bank accounts that do not belong to Join Up! Romania.

The company has already notified the authorities of the situation by filing a criminal complaint.

To prevent such cases, Join Up! Romania urges consumers to be cautious before transferring funds and to verify the authenticity of the communication channel, offer, invoice and any other contractual or payment documents received. The company also reminds consumers that the only authorized bank accounts belonging to Join Up! Romania are those listed on its official website, www.joinup.ro.

Anyone who encounters or becomes aware of such cases should contact the Police immediately.

Recently, Romanian authorities1 have warned about this type of online fraud involving fake pages, accounts and payment requests that misuse company names and identities. Such fraud has targeted major companies in Romania across various sectors, particularly throughout this year, and is also encountered internationally. According to the National Directorate for Cyber Security (DNSC), fraud and attempted fraud incidents increased by 91%, from 2,061 in 2024 to 3,937 in 2025.2

Recommendations for online safety

  • Use only the company’s official communication channels and check the identifying details of the pages you access. Those behind such deceptive schemes often use recently created Facebook pages with no history, few followers, slightly altered names, spelling mistakes or no verified page badge.
  • Verify any unusual or inconsistent information through the company’s official channels (www.joinup.ro, Join Up! Romania Call Centre: 0316304232 or email: cc@joinup.ro) or through its authorized partners.
  • Before transferring money, check that the payment recipient is a legally authorized business and that the IBAN on the invoice genuinely belongs to that entity. The fact that an offer, booking confirmation or invoice contains a company’s name, logo and details does not guarantee that it is authentic.
  • Check the web address of the page you are visiting: a changed letter or an unusual domain may indicate a fake page.
  • Carefully check the web address (URL) of the page you are visiting: an altered letter, an unusual domain or domain extension may indicate an unofficial page or one operated by unauthorized third parties.
  • Do not click suspicious links or provide personal or banking details, or login credentials, on unverified pages and/or platforms.
  • Access the official website by typing the address directly into your browser or by using the company’s official channels, rather than clicking links in advertisements, messages or comments.
  • Anyone who suspects potential fraud should notify the Police immediately.
